It was a thing of beauty to see those white exhaust dumps glowing cherry red on Friday nights at Richmond's Southside Speedway as Perk wheeled that #45 William Mason ride!

Perk was my favorite at BGS. Saw him race many times in Mason's 45, and later in the beautiful "Honey Bear"!

A legend in Va. and Carolina. The man to beat at Starkey Speedway,Bowman Gray, and Martinsville. Ran well everywhere he raced.
Paul Radford said he was a very smooth driver, Paul said he knows Perk spun him a few times, but he couldn't swear to it because it was so smooth!

I was too young to ever see him race, but i did know him, he was a good friend to my grandfather, i'll never forget walking into martinsville speedway w/ him and grandpa, the first person to talk to him was clay earles, then barney hall, and he asked me if I wanted to meet any of the drivers(cup guys) me, the awe-struck kid, all i could do was nod, then he proceeded to go to bobby allison's van( no rv's then) he hollered, "hey bobby!!" and bobby looked at him w/ those same awe-struck eyes I had!! I thought wow!! I'm in the presence of a true racing legend. it stands to this day as one of the greatest moments in my life

Hello Andy,
The 45a above is Carl Burris in a team car to Perk Brown, William Mason built. Harold Smith was a great key in helping build this car. Donald Bryant could have been on board also.

I can remember seeing "Perk" Brown race at Brunswick Speedway Lawrenceville, VA back in 1957
