Growing up in Southeastern Iowa in the 60's, I was fortunate to be able to see stock car greats like Ernie Derr, Don White, Ramo Stott, Dick Hutcherson and other greats of the IMCA and USAC stock car circuits compete on their natural environment, dirt. Ernie Derr was one of the best, as great competitor and as a mechanic. It was drivers like him who make those of today's generation suffer by comparison. God must surely have a Saturday night dirt track in Heaven for Ernie and the others of his generation to thrill us once more by competing in the sport that they so clearly loved and helped to build. RIP Ernie and thanks for the memories.

I happened to Google Ernie Derr and found this site.  My father was in Ernie's pit crew for years and I spent a few Summers traveling to the races with Ernie  and spending my time in the watching the races and fights, lolol.  Great times as a kid. Also got to meet Ramo Stott and Don White in their heydays!

They talk about Jimmie Johnson's 4 in a row Championships...how about Ernie's 7 in a row! I would like to share with the Ernie Derr Club memebers my tribute art work to honor the racing his racing career.

Ernie Derr was to IMCA dirt racing as Ralph Earnhardt was to the early days of NASCAR. They were both extremely competritive and wily men who had the ability to build 'em and then race and win in 'em. Virtually anyone who ever raced with either Ernie or Ralph will tell you "he was the toughest guy that I ever raced against."
Glad to recognize and honor Ernie too.
