Oldest son of Wayne Andrews. Growing up I did not know there was anything else to do but go to the race track on Saturday night and watch daddy race. I can't imagine a kid having more fun than I did. The memories are priceless. Did a little racing myself on dirt and paved short tracks, even got to do some road course racing.
How long have you been a race fan?
All my life.

Wayne Andrews beside the '62 Impala owned by Pete and Bea Brewer.

The 1965 racing season was kicked off with a Fish Fry for all the race team members and their families. It was held at “Spud’s” (Wayne’s dad) service station which is where they worked on the race car. Fried fish, slaw and…

Bowman-Gray Stadium regulars didn't win but dominated the top 5 of the modified race at the Daytona short track on the back stretch.

All were third generation drivers. The Myers brothers and a Fleming. The Fleming kid is young. Is he Frank's son?

The test of a man

The test of a man is the fight that he makes.

The grit that he daily shows,

The way that he stands on his feet and takes

Fate's numerous bumps and blows.

A coward can smile when there is naught to fear

When nothing his progress bars,

But it takes a man to…

Rusty Remains

This past Saturday I took a walk in the woods to talk with God and clear my head. It was an area that I had been to many times but it seemed different that day. As a boy I used to walk the path through these woods from our back yard to my great grandparents house but the path is no longer visible. The place I grew up on is no longer in the family so I stopped at the property line and tried to remember where the path was but the back side of the plot had been cleared years ago.

My mind…

Dennis, No I do not.

I have heard of Hopkins' car during this period (late '68) but do not know if this is

it. I have not seen another photo of this car. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the birthday message.  I always remember that Wayne's sons have the same names as my first and last name.  I retired from Raleigh PD nine years ago and worked many years with Randy Deaton.  I'm sure there are many stories from both sides there!  Hope you are doing well.
