Oldest son of Wayne Andrews. Growing up I did not know there was anything else to do but go to the race track on Saturday night and watch daddy race. I can't imagine a kid having more fun than I did. The memories are priceless. Did a little racing myself on dirt and paved short tracks, even got to do some road course racing.
How long have you been a race fan?
All my life.

Unique Ads

Posted on March 18, 2016 at 2:30pm 7 Comments

I ran across the following ads for the Cleveland County Speedway in Shelby, NC from 1957. At first I thought they were posted in the paper by fans commenting on events that took place at the speedway but the more I found it seemed clear they were track sponsored ads. Thought it would be fun to see your comments on the ads.…

The 1965 racing season was kicked off with a Fish Fry for all the race team members and their families. It was held at “Spud’s” (Wayne’s dad) service station which is where they worked on the race car. Fried fish, slaw and…

Bowman-Gray Stadium regulars didn't win but dominated the top 5 of the modified race at the Daytona short track on the back stretch.

All were third generation drivers. The Myers brothers and a Fleming. The Fleming kid is young. Is he Frank's son?

The test of a man

Posted on July 21, 2011 at 6:32pm 3 Comments

The test of a man is the fight that he makes.

The grit that he daily shows,

The way that he stands on his feet and takes

Fate's numerous bumps and blows.

A coward can smile when there is naught to fear

When nothing his progress bars,

But it takes a man to…

Rusty Remains

Posted on March 22, 2011 at 10:30pm 3 Comments

This past Saturday I took a walk in the woods to talk with God and clear my head. It was an area that I had been to many times but it seemed different that day. As a boy I used to walk the path through these woods from our back yard to my great grandparents house but the path is no longer visible. The place I grew up on is no longer in the family so I stopped at the property line and tried to remember where the path was but the back side of the plot had been cleared years ago.

My mind…

Sorry I remember the Fairlane. By that time Ken and my Father had gone in different directions. When they were to together I believe they had a 40 ford with the flat head. Ken recently pass away but you might could contact his sons Ronnie or Wayne in Faith NC.

What a great story!  Even interesting to the ladies as well, if they knew anything about racing. Especially if the lady was married to a race driver and two sons who raced also.  As you wrote, I was following right along beside of you, in mind.  Have been through many places such as you described, just searching for items you mentioned.  Sometimes we were lucky and other times someone had beat us to the discarded remains.  Thanks for bringing memories back!  Many are still making memories for years to come, hope they are smart enough to cash in on the "yesterdays and the tomorrows!"

Thanks again , God bless and we love you and yours.
